چکیده

In this paper, the issue of adhesion to biological substrates for biomedical applications is addressed. In particular, taking inspiration from intestinal parasites, micro-hooks for clamping on the gastrointestinal wall have been studied, in order to provide future endoscopic micro-systems with the capability of attaching safely to the mucosa surface. A novel fabrication technology and experimentation on nylon micro-hooks are presented, together with theoretical modelling of the process. Artificial hooks have been prototyped (length ranging between 300μm and 500μm; maximum diameter of 100 μm) and a batch process for large array production has been proposed.

Effect of nano- and micro-roughness on adhesion of bioinspired micropatterned surfaces.

In this work, the adhesion of biomimetic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) pillar arrays with mushroom-shaped tips was studied on nano- and micro-rough surfaces and compared to unpatterned controls. The adhesion strength on nano-rough surfaces invariably decreased with increasing roughness, but pillar arrays retained higher adhesion strengths than unpatterned controls in all cases. The results were a...

Enhanced adhesion by gecko-inspired hierarchical fibrillar adhesives.

The complex structures that allow geckos to repeatably adhere to surfaces consist of multilevel branching fibers with specialized tips. We present a novel technique for fabricating similar multilevel structures from polymer materials and demonstrate the fabrication of arrays of two- and three-level structures, wherein each level terminates in flat mushroom-type tips. Adhesion experiments are co...

Biomimetic surfaces with controlled direction-dependent adhesion.

We propose a novel design of a biomimetic micro-structured surface, which exhibits controlled strongly direction-dependent adhesion properties. The micro-system consists of parallel elastic wall-like structures covered by a thin layer. Numerical calculations have been carried out to study the adhesive properties of the proposed system and to provide design criteria with the aim of obtaining opt...

Surface Activation of NiTi Alloy by Using Electrochemical Process for Biomimetic Deposition of Hydroxyapatite Coating (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Electrochemical depositions of calcium phosphate (Ca-P) film on NiTi alloy in concentrated simulated body flood (SBF×5) were carried out by cathodic polarization. The Ca-P layer was successfully deposited on Ni-Ti alloy substrate under 10mA/cm2 current density for 2 hours at room temperature. Then, in order to investigate the bioactivity of the pre-calcified samples, they were immersed in SBF f...

Design and bioinformatics analysis of novel biomimetic peptides as nanocarriers for gene transfer

Objective(s): The introduction of nucleic acids into cells for therapeutic objectives is significantly hindered by the size and charge of these molecules and therefore requires efficient vectors that assist cellular uptake. For several years great efforts have been devoted to the study of development of recombinant vectors based on biological domains with potential applications in gene therapy....
